Hello, all!

I'm glad to have found this site, and am looking forward to getting lots of good tips and info... As I said in the title, I'm an Army Wife currently living in south Georgia (Fort Benning). I'm from the Atlanta area, so I'm a little bit familiar with the climate and conditions, but this is the first time I've seriously tried gardening. I have two packed flower beds, plus two HUGE containers with tomatoes and peppers (I already have two little green 'maters growing!)

Oh, and I'm expecting our first baby (a little boy!) this October, and I'm finding my gardening to be really relaxing and enjoyable, so I plan to keep it up. Thanks for having me! smile

LuvMyRanger - - remembered something a little earlier today and wanted to get it posted to you quickly (so I broke my own rule about going online at home wink )

Most, if not all, Army bases have specific areas set aside for gardening. Unless one knows about them and knows to ask - they sometimes sit idle.

Go to the MWR office and ask about it. Usually they are administered by the MWR. At all bases I was at (once I learned to ask) there was no limit on what was planted. It also provided for a lot of swapping plants and product from the garden. There are usually not enough plots for everyone that might want one - which is why they are not advertised on base. I had been active duty over 8 years when I learned about them. The plots are generally good sized - some have been well worked - some are "new" ground.

I'm trying to remember which agency besides MWR would know about them. Also - simply asking at the Rec Center will generally not locate it - as those folks are often just as in the dark as other GIs and dependents.

Again - - wishing you well.

Jon
