Welcome to the site! I'm in Texarkana...so, we're not too far from each other. I really want to grow Hibiscus. I see neighbors with them & they're beautiful. I am a beginner, over the years I've grown a little something here & there but this year I've gotten into gardening much more. Hopefully, next year I'll be ready to do more. Glad you found this site!

Hi JV,

Welcome. More organic is definately something I am interested in learning more about more for the kids sake than anything else. Is it very time consuming? I am pretty much clueless when it comes to organic gardening, in fact all I really do is put it in the ground and hope it grows.

Hello,

I truly believe in organic gardening. If your plants are strong and healthy, they can usually fight off any insect infestation. I like to use Humor, an alfalfa compost, blood meal and bone meal. These seem to have the nutrients plants need to be strong and vigorous. I have found that the blood meal is terrific for any flowering plants, and does not burn if watered in well. I have "fried" several plants with rose and flowering plant food. The roses do very, very well, however, the other flowering plants seem to be adverse to the chemical fertilizers. I have gardened for quite some time, and still learn so much each year. Oh, by the way, I am in Oklahoma and the climate is very close to yours. No competition? We do seem to have a rivalry going where football is concerned. Fortunately, I don't like football!

Kindest Regards,
Karen
