I have a new skunk I haven't seen before! I'll try to get a photo of it tonight. I'm sure it will be back, because it knows THIS is the place for the "Grub Buffet" now!!! Has anyone here made friends with any skunks? And, ...this is a VERY important question...If you disturb skunk poop, does it stink REAL bad? There's some piles out here I'd like to get rid of, but I'm scared to disturb them! Cindy

Go ahead and get rid of it ms. cindy ^.^ The only thing that stinks about skunks is their glands. When you run em over, the glands pop. That causes the stuff to leak all over the place, so if you run it over again, then your car will stink.
But ya you should definately keep the skunks there! They'll teach those dogs a lesson! "oh look at the pretty white kitty! *chases it* DAH!"

Forget using the BB gun on the dogs...just make friends with the skunk...you don't have to worry about reloading! Take aim...lift the tail...and SQUIRT AWAY!! Karen ![[Linked Image]](http://smilieworx.com/smilies/scifC1E.gif)

I know a lady who actually had 2 pet skunks. She had the gland removed when they were babies and now they make the most amazing pets. Weird eh?

if your dogs or cats or anything get sprayed, I heard a good solution is to bathe them in tomato juice.. sounds strange but it was one of my grammie's old remedies

Laura...I figured Phil would like skunks because of the organic use for them! (I replied to Carly\'s Post with my "Using skunks as grub eradication" idea!) I'm naming the ones I have made friends with. So far, there's " rose"... "Waylon and Willie", but I haven't gotten a photo of "Willie" yet. (Chill out, Bill! NOT named after Wild Willy!!! ) "Waylon" and "Jasmine", my new friend since last night. "Jasmine" I've been VERY close to them, even started to pet " rose", but I chickened out! I've never smelled anything...yet! Cindy P.S. The post when I finally get sprayed will be EXTREMELY funny!

Magic....that tomato juice really DOES DO the trick....I mentioned this before but....I was watching my friends dog while she was layed up after knee surgery and went to go let the dog out....well the dog liked to chase kitties...(never got anything she was too fat)...but anywho she started to bolt and I saw the "pretty kitty" at the last second....I yelled "noooooo Sassy"....but ummmmm  toooo late...so I ran home and grabbed 4 cans of tomato juice and Sassy got a cold bath at around midnight....the only negative about t. juice is if you have a light colored dog .... they turn pink for awhile Cindy be careful not to get bit by those skunks....they can be carriers of rabies! My parents used to have a huge sliding glass window where they lived while I was growing up and every evening we would watch the skunks, coyotes, cats, possums(with babies attached, racoons, walk past the window...it was absolutely great being soooo close but yet a secure feeling knowing there was a glass window between us. My daughter's best friend used to feed the skunks cat food....one day one of the kids accidently left the screen door open...one of the kids heard something all the way across the entire house....it was a skunk that had wondered into the laundry room ....it got scared and waddled back out but ohhhh my what a mess THAT could of been. <img border="0" alt="[perplexed]" title="" src="graemlins/confused.gif" />

Another quick thing to watch out for with skunks is they like to nest under your house. If they are under the house and ever spray, the smell never goes away. It will seep up through the floor for years. But they do a wonderful job eating grubs and other vermin. They also, will usually give notice before they spray, by "stomping" their front feet, then turning their backside at you.

They also, will usually give notice before they spray, by "stomping" their front feet, then turning their backside at you. I read stuff like this on the internet before attempting to get close to them. "Waylon" is the only one who has done this so far, and when he did, believe me I BACKED OFF pretty fast! It's nice to know that they warn you before spraying (famous last words!!! ) Catlover...Accidently having one come inside happened to me when I was staying at my daughter's house after my divorce. I was working in her basement one night with the garage door open, and saw (what appeared to be!) her solid white cat out in the driveway. Well, it wasn't supposed to be outside, and I thought I'd accidently let it out. So, I said "Here, Kitty Kitty". It came right inside the basement straight for me...and it wasn't her cat! It was a beautiful snow white skunk! I freaked out when I realized it was a skunk, and hit the button to close the garage doors! (What a dumba$$!!!) Luckily, it turned and ran toward the door, and got out right as the door closed...which of course caused the door to change direction and start going back up!

About 2 maybe 3 years years ago my bassett hound had a close encounter with a skunk.I would swear He probably shoved his head up its A$$.I left him in back yard to"air out" for 3 days.He smelled that bad.I think he barked alot...cause well he stunck pretty bad.Tomato juice didn't do much for him,but he did chiver and I had bought 8 gallons of it and had him in tub which had shower doors and had a motercycle helment on...to block the smell.with a shirt around my lower face.He really really did stink.I can say that peroxide& bakeing soda work.guy hubby worked with his dad was dog catcher he said to use that.He even went and got for me and ran by house& he left real fast after smelling bathroom. It worked...and he did have a slight smell everytime afterward when got bath for a few months..yes months.skunk spray is like a oil.think of desil fuel.water made it worse to get out& if had used the bakeing soda/peroxide 1st would have worked better.I hope he stays from them now.I live woods now and see less so all must run to city. good luck with your skunk pets.

had him in tub which had shower doors and had a motercycle helment on... Uhh...who had the helmet on? You or the dog? Either way, I'd pay 50 bucks for a photo of it! When I worked at the vet clinic we used disposable douche to get the skunk smell out of dogs! It works! Karen...I have a picture of Willie now.

"Willie" is on the left, and the newest skunk "Sunflower" is on the right. She kept smelling the little sunflower you can see in the photo.

My goodness you have a lot of skunks there miss cindy. My neighbors across the street from me have said that there is a skunk in our neighborhood.. that one morning they came out, and it was ON THIER PORCH. We live in town, so while we occasionally see them on the highway nearby smushed, it's kinda rare to see them around town. After they told me this, I do believe one night I was looking out my window onto my deck, and I'm pretty sure I saw a skunk fleeing from my garbage. I didn't bother to open the door to check for sure tho. Meg

They are sooooo cute! My daughters friend has a pet skunk and he's the funniest thing ever. He plays tag, etc. with their cat. He'll walk up to the cat and stomp his feet, make a weird noise and run off. If the cat doesn't give chase it walks up to the cat stomping his feet and bouncing up and down like a rabbit. Its hilariuos to watch them chasing each other. Karen

Well, one of them finally freaked me out last night! I went outside to take a picture of the frogs that lay around my pond at night, and happened to see a new skunk in the bird garden. It looked exactly like "Sunflower", solid black with white on top of it's head, but was MUCH bigger! So, I pointed the camera at it and snapped a few pictures. It didn't seem to mind, just kept eating. I wanted it to look at me so I could get a picture of it's face, so I said "Hey, little skunk!" real soft to it. Man, that sucker started right toward me! I backed to the door and it kept coming! It was right at my feet!!! I don't know if it was being friendly, or if it thought I came bearing cat food, or what it's intentions were! I just knew that, according to the law of averages, I am due to get sprayed any time now! I've been VERY lucky so far with my little "Ellie Mae Clampett" adventure with the skunks! After I got inside it sat on the step for a minute, then went back to the bird garden. Whew!
