Just had to share my excitement! My husband read an ad in a local paper about a house they were tearing down in order to build a new "mansion." He was after "boy" stuff they were selling, which he found and was happy, and I asked about plants. Well, yes, they had some that would get destroyed in the building process so they were up for grabs. So - about 3 DOZEN hostas, two beautiful hydrangeas, some phlox, Solomon's seal, a huge bucket of pachysandra and enough ivy to cover many fences, I'm ecstatic! All for 20 bucks. So - the tip is, check out those construction/deconstruction areas for any plants that may be available (with permission, of course). Sure beats paying retail! I'll also got three pair of glittery, frilly shoes (for free - no one else would take) that will make adorable planters for our fairy garden.

kissies for my hubby for his detective work!

Thanks! I am so blessed. We are converting about 1 1/2 acres of lawn into gardens, and I certainly can't afford to buy all the plant material at retail. I'm seed-saving like crazy, and starting as many things from cuttings as I can. Then, there are the crash-and-dent carts of plants at my local nurseries that I make a bee-line for then bring them back to life. Now I'm off to try and identify that hosta!

I love the glittery shoe planter idea. I just through out two pairs of shoes last week. Wish I would have read this earlier. But I guess that's life huh?

Good luck with your garden.
