A Gardeners Forum Forums Members History Forum Life 2005 Quick and Dirty Compost Bin

I've been lurking here a while and browsing pictures and drew inspiration for my first compost bin. Someone had in their photo album a picture of a woven wall using the same technique, so I went out and built it. I'm surrounded by trees and plenty of branches so it's really cheap. I don't know if it will work but I'm giving a shot.



I'm filling it with all the chopped fall leaves. (Love that lawnmower!) and kitchen scraps, sawdust and coffee grounds. It's only about 2 by 3 feet wide. I hope this works!

That would be Carly... she loves doing those...

That's a cute idea for your leaves and garden leftovers...***I'm not too sure about putting in
scraps, as you can't really keep rodents/cats/animals out of it, and may tear it apart.. but try it..
and if they do, just keep the leaves and grass and un~food type stuff..

but it should work...

And we love compost here.. great stuff and it's free...so keep us posted on how it works...

***I took some old packing crates and cut holes/slits in them and made home made bins for
me...*** free and cheap, the companies just throw them out and I was happy to give them homes..

Hoa, I just cut the branches and pounded them in the ground and wove the rest together. No nails, screws, or twine. Kinda like weaveing.

Best part is, the trees are still sheading branches, so I'm still adding to the fence. It's starting to look a bit more solid now.

So far I haven't had a creature problem.(crossing fingers)There are plenty of racoons around. I've just been making sure all vegetable scraps get covered in old coffee grounds before adding them. Seams to work ok.
