pagarden,
Usually you can start some of the crops' now,
it is the middle of July after all!
But, Peas can be done, lettuce's, radish's, cabbages', broccoli's and brussels sprouts, cauliflower, beets, carrots, rosemary, sage, cilantro....... I even thought carrots too.
(they say for the under the ground crops are sweeter with one good frost or so!)
We get a frost up here about end of September beginings of October...
(I am going to experiment this year by putting in tomatoes plants in pots (5 gallon pails) and when the threat of the frosts start, I'm wheeling my plants into the greenhouse, and see if I can get a last week or two of crops!
(It always seems we get a frost so early, before the crops have completely finished, and then great weather for several more weeks after, so I'm going to see if I can get a bunch of more weeks worth of growings...)

Are there any vegetables that can grow in containers in Fall? I'm in zone 8 or 9. Where can I look up this info so I can quit bothering you guys with my 1 million questions? shocked

Zelinda,
We love you guys "bothering us" grinnnn
That's half the fun of this place

What do you like to eat?

And when is your frost date?
Do you know/??

Up here in zone 5, our first frost date is
around Sept....

I would think that where you live, you could
plant any of the ones' I mentioned above...

Papito gardens in containers, and he lives in Calif....he may be able to give you some more pointers!!!!!

What about NC with a first frost date of October 25th? I tried to look up fall crops but all I could find was info on spinach, which we don't eat.

Sheri,
Did you like anything on the list of veggies above?

I don't usually do too many, as I am always late getting my stuff in, in the first place, so I never have time to pull mine out and start again.

Although this year with my little greenhouse, I was able to start things earlier, so once I get the hang of it, I may be able too!!!

I love that greenhouse, I am going to experiment with growing some tomatoes in some 5 gallon buckets, and wheeling them into the greenhouse come fall time, and see if I can get a week or two *or more????* out of the buckets and greenhouse...I should be able to wheel in about 16 of them..*if I get that many*

If I do get some results, I think next year, I will plant alot of different things in the pots as well and see if other things can keep going too!

Here's a little info on growing veggies,
and how long it takes to produce a product.
That may give you an idea of what you can still plant, according to your own frost dates of where you are..

growing Tips for Garden Vegetables

Count the days until your frost, and count backwards to see if you have enough days left!!!
