I am 15-years-old and have only been painting seriously for about a year. I like using oil paints to make painted "copies" of photos. I get discouraged a lot when parts don't turn out the way I want, but I keep going and push through. And I've noticed that each painting is better than the one before it. Anybody else out there share my interest? And if so, do you have any tips for me? Thanks!!!

Very nice Sarah..
I love ocean paintings...
I did one in rust, orange, yellow, red colors...
*I don't even remember where it is now that I think about it??*

*I used to paint alot when I was your age....
sighhhhhhhhh, haven't done it in years...
I drew alot too..*
but when the kids grow up and I'm lookin' for things to do, I will definately go back to it...

My sister~in~law was a great painter too, she
did beautiful paintings of people and wind in their hair.. ohhhhhhhh so pretty..
*she's passed away, but I remember alot of them
she did*

P/S My dad was too, but he was in commercial painting.. wink wink

How long have you been doing it????

And do you make up the pictures in your mind/head and then draw, or do you have to look at a picture?

I have to look at a picture and then do it..
A friend could draw using his imagination and what awesome pictures they were.. I envied him to be able to do that...

Anyhow, thanks for sharing your picture... thumbup clp

Thanks Weezie! I've been seriously painting for nearly a year now. I have to look at a picture first before I paint, also. I thought that it was neat that my art teacher could paint looking at actual objects and incorporate a background setting into the picture with just his mind. It was SO cool!!!

Hi Sarah

Great Painting, Good luck with the expo.
I also paint, mainly with acrylic on canvas.
I am partial to the surrealism art form.
Yet I never know what will appear on the canvas.

For the most part I enjoy painting when I have no plan. When I plan something it seems to not come out as easily.

Hi, I like what you are doing. I teach a photo and painting class, and we are currently doing something that you might like, because it marries photo and paint. It is so much fun!
We take colorful digital photos. There is an option to put a watercolor filter on the image or bump up the color with Photoshop, but it's not neccesary.
We then print out the image on a light weight watercolor paper or printmaking paper. With a soft brush an water,we bleed the colors to get the appearance of a painting. We even use sharpies to write verse on them, use actual watercolor on them, varnish them, the sky is the limit!
Painterly Photography! I mostly do my own paintings with acrylic, but admire oil users. I'm too messy to work with oil, but it's beautiful.

I painted this years ago and sent it to Bill...I painted one for me too, but mine has since met it's demise from peeling from sun and heat.
