Merme It's good you know you have a plan of action,, sooo many people don't and just assume 'someone' will handle things.
It's also wonderful you have depenable people you trust will carry thru with all you need for both you and Maxi thus providing Maxi with all the security and wellbeing under unforseen circumstances.. All Mothers and Fathers should devise such a plan of action for their children, and for themselfs and should be as lucky as you to have such wonderful friends and family to see that all intails gets handed quickly and correctly,

Thank you for submitting your plan of action as it enlightenss all to really think about who we can depend on in our time of need/ crisis/ !

Thank you, Diane ~

That is the kicker, isn't it? NOBODY likes to think about the possibilities of "What If?" but it is foolishness itself to NOT think about it, especially when there is a child or children involved.

And, because I have been sick for 5 years now, we've had opportunities to refine our plan and practice it.

But it wasn't always that way! That first summer, in 2001, when I got so unexpectedly sick just 6 weeks after the divorce -- wow! the world sort of fell apart for me AND little Maxi who was just then finishing up pre-K.

I would never, ever again want to put the child through another summer like the one he had that year. His little life was utter chaos from the middle of May through September.

I'd be a very irresponsible mom to not plan for him now that we understand about how fragile my health truly is.

Still, it is a hard topic to think about.

Yeah I know Merme it IS a hard topic but a realistic one,, I never babytalked my kids I was forthwit and never minced words so it was clear what was to be expected .. and all questions were welcomed and we would solve answers together One of the biggest ? was " what if So and So is sick too and they can't help that's when I recongised there was going to be and still is a Plan A , B, and C and every couple of years somtimes things get revised while aother things have always remained the same.. as children grow so do happenstance, and needs, so things of course will get revised, as long as the main few that have agreed to commit on following thru stay committed then I don't have a cause of concern.. It a definate thing to do even if it's a childless couple as well,, I think everyone should have a plan of action. thumbup

Wow...I just read over this whole topic again...and thought that I had replied to it...right after the post where Merme was telling about Mel coming to her rescue. Looks like I must have just THOUGHT my reply and didn't actually POST it. nutz ...or maybe typed it and just clicked it off, like I have been known to do many times lately.

Anyway...I'm going to try again! shocked laugh

Merme...you have a good plan in place, and that's something everyone needs to have. When my dad had his first stroke back in December, he had been at the hospital for 7 hours before I found out about it. Everyone just assumed I was telepathic, and no one bothered to call me. Not only did it make me very mad that no one called me, my dad was a little hurt because I wasn't at the hospital with him, where I should have been. Miscommunication can lead to all sorts of havoc.

OK...I almost did it again.
I started this reply an hour and a half ago, then got a phone call, then got off the phone and went outside.
Going to have to up my meds I think. shocked

merme, just realizing yet again how glad i am for all those who help you. no part is too small and all help to knit a cohesive whole. thanks to everyone who is so committed to doing their part. and here's hoping we never "have to use it"! i have been an outspoken advocate for living wills all of career. there is never a "nice" time to discuss life threatening emergencies, but certainly the worst time is during one. anyone close to another is so emotionally involved that decicion-making abilities are at an all time low. it is most difficult to suddenly be the one medical personel turn to without actual discussed info from the person involved. you always hope you know someone well enough to "guess" their wishes but it is much better to actually know. okay, i'll step down off my soapbox now! *insert curtsy-ing blushing gremlin!
