Hi!

I'm an Interior Decorator & I end up working with about 4 clients a month, so I wanted a wider range of opinion.

I was wondering what you might think about this trend.

The hottest color for 2006 is ORANGE!

What is your reaction to using this color in your home?

Have you jumped on this trend?

If so, what have you done that looks great and what has been a disaster?

i like how its been used in that picture, but with such a strong color, you would definetly need a big room to carry it, the bed and the whole room looks great together!!

I too like the orange and depending on accessories to warm it up ..cream and earth tones, woods, wrought irons,,etc, or keep it cool with blues, whites, glass.. I've seen it used both ways and like both ways.. I even like the industrial look with the orange,, .

Mverch .. I painted my kitchen in the orange and reds .. makes it feel festive and happy..

That is strange, cause I decorated with photos that i took and enlarged .. Orange is dominating and I never knew that.
It is nice, but my guy would not want a dominating orange in curtains and walls.. I painted a wall chocolate, 2 months ago, gees i had to wash it all off..My walls are mostly white.

But I watch HGTV and see the brilliant colors there.

My reaction is...

If someone were to just say, "Would you paint a room in your home Orange?" (without showing a picture) I would probably say no.
But given the picture, it really looks nice and I would go for it.
The large windows, with the white blinds, white ceiling, dark woods in the room and the matching orange bed pieces, all of that pulls it together and makes the orange really work for something great.
And I did hear a while back that "Orange is the new pink"
I don't know anyone with pink paint though!
But I do like the bedroom in the photo it is beautiful. Its warm and inviting like a sunset.
So it probably all goes down to personality and taste and what look you are going for.
But if it is a trend, then the tradional rules will bend.

Here is a good answer.. Orange and pink seem to go well in my tulip this year.. Maybe you copied..

Trendy or not, that color makes me gag. I would NOT, under any circumstances, use that color in my home.

I like it in the flower, though.

I saw on HGTV where they used chocolate brown on the walls, I tried that, my husband blew his coop.. What in the name of gods sake made you do that ?????//

I have seen chocolate brown on many shows on HGTV and TLC, and it often looked quite handsome. Although it is another color I wouldn't choose for my home.

I'm sure your husband was perplexed at the choice!

You are right: with some colors it is a matter of object, or placement. I love vases of flowers of every description and colors galore. Funny how such a mix 'em up works well in nature but can be so garish in a fabric or on the walls!

Interesting question...

Orange was a very popular color in clothes here last year, and I've heard that the home decorating business follows a year behind in what the popular clothing color was.

My son is moving into a different house up where he went to college and the landlords are doing much work to fix it up now. The interesting thing was, that my son told me one of the bedrooms is being painted MANGO. I don't think I'd like that color, and don't think it's really a guy's color, but we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

That said... I have been buying lots of orange flowers to plant around my small bathtub pond, because I have orange goldfish in it, and I like the way it makes them pop in the pond.

Funny thing here too.. Someone sent me an orange rose bush last fall, they didnt want..
And this spring I bought orange amaryliss for my beds.....Have orange marigolds blooming, and yesterday my son bought me a bright orange begonia for moms day.

Must be the season.. None of those were planned.

WOW - that certainly gets your attention!

Funny thing is... I never really cared for orange flowers before last summer when I had the goldfish outside. Then I found some orange mini zinnias, and they grew very well. And orange gazania, which were so cheerful. Marigolds I could live without though...

i live in Collingwood, population 20thousand, so its big to some and small to others, we are about 2 hours directly north of toronto, on georgian bay, lots of nhl players live up in this area in the off season, we have skiing in the winter and beaches in the summer.
Have you ever been to Ontario?

Been to Quebec.....thought that was huge.. How much population is in that..?
20,000 is way too large for me.. We were out when I was single .. ladies vacation.
My brother who lived in the falls, said the canadian side is more beautiful.. he is dead now.
I think my sister threw his ashes there, it was his request..;O)

I don't think I'd have the guts to do so much orange - in a landscape, yes, but in a room? That I'd have to live in?

You guys need to get to BC...northern BC that is...way less people...

the population of ontario is 12 million and the population of quebec is 7 million, Ontario is a huge province, the falls are really pretty and i have to admit, the canadian side is pretty although they are cleaning up the states side and making alot of parks now.

I have to agree with merme, Not in my home either..too loud for me..Looks good in others with surroundings that compliment,however, I am neutral, except my artwork,that's were my colors come in...

But, That's what makes the world go around, different taste:-)I love that color for flowers too...
