I have calla lilies that I just started this year, I know I have to let them dry and stand dormant for a few months, what I would like to know is, one of them has a seed pod growing on it, what do I do with that? What does this seed pod produce, and do I keep them and start new ones from them? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have been growing calla lilys in pots for two years now. You need to cut off the seed pod or the plant will put all its energy into producing seeds and the bulb will suffer. I usually wait until they turn brown and then cut them off and put the whole pot in my basement. Then in the spring, when the evenings are warm, I bring them up and put them in new pots with new potting soil. This has worked for me.

This coming from a newbie..And mainly my first question here so please be kind...Anyway, I on my first encounter with planting anything have planted a few Calla Lilies, it said when I planted to put them with the little ?pointed things? (excuse me...nipples) up..Well, on two I put in one pot, I honestly couldn't determine where those things were..So the point is, 2 of the 4 I have planted have started sprouting no problem (and I was so excited..Finally, I am getting something to grow-these were the first flowers I had planted) Anyway, can I go into the dirt and turn the bulbs or anything? Or are they just a lost cause?

I know this sounds like a totally stupid question, but I really don't know and am totally lost here...

Naw, just leave them alone. If they've started sprouting they may not like being turned over at this point.

Bulbs don't really mind being upside down that much. They'll just take a bit more time showing up because they'll have to make a U-turn and head upwards again.

a little secret of mine...when in doubt which side is up...plant on its side..

Thanks so much for your help! I greatly appreciate it....I just figured since the one pot had already sprouted out so nicely, that the other was a lost cause...It never occurred to me to just give it a bit longer. I have been in the house painting for the last 3 days (on my days off <img border="0" alt="[perplexed]" title="" src="graemlins/confused.gif" /> ) and haven't been able to check in since I posted that..And that idea of planting on the side...Why didn't I think of that?? Guess that is why I have you guys...Thanks sooooo much!

Just wanted to give everyone an update...The second pot of Calla Lilly finally started sprouting :-) Of course the first one is huge now and this one is just over an inch tall...I am just glad that it finally is growing :-) Thanks again for the help...
