My canna lilies still have stalks that are starting to wilt and turn brown but still have green in them and are still tall. Do I dig them up and cut off the stalks or wait for them to completely go into the ground and then dig them up? Westchester, NY.

I would dig the bulbs up since your ground freezes in Winter. Store in either pine shavings (or maybe sand???). I would actually look here, Dave's Garden or google it!! There probably is something about this in Gardening 'How To' here?? Ask Bill!! hehehe Apparently what he doesn't know he can find out!!

lol, I lifted my canna and cut the stems off where they started to turn white. I was also told to make sure I get all the dirt off of them before storing. I am storing in brown paper bags in a room that stays around 55 degrees F. I hope this helps.
