I have recently bought some tubers that by the time I was able to plant them they had already grown 12-15" from the tuber. I planted them as specified but ~6" of the new growth was above the mulch. I have recently discovered that the new growth is black and obviously dead. Should of I cut this new growth off before planting or will the tuber send new shoots? Is there a way to save them?

Could they have suffered in a cold snap? We had cold weather here 2 weeks ago and it turned some of my plants black. Since the tubers are underground, they should grow back.

Cut off the black growth and wait. Water sparingly and cross your fingers. if the roots were healthy they should survive.
