I have 3 large plum trees in my front yard .About two years ago we cut in around them rocked in around the base,now nothing will grow under it. (except candy tuft with little or no flowering)I would like to get your ideas .Is it the acidity ?And suggestions on slowing the bearing of fruit (hangs over the driveway)would be appreciated.

Try growing impatiens under it they should do fine. As far as slowing down the bearing of fruit
Try spraying it with dormant oil while in bloom.
This should kill the blooms before they have a chance to start producing the fruit. That is why they tell you not to spray after bud break. This is just a guess, but it should work, at least in theory.
