linley Junior Member L Joined: Apr 2006 Holbrook MA	Hi, This is my first spring in my new home, and I I'm afraid my forsytia bush is not blooming, it has a few scattered flowers but no green? My husband did cut this back in the summer when it was over grown? Does this mean that it is dead?

Then after it's done.. and spring is realllly springing into summer, the branches will green up for you and then you can cut/prune them then.. Forsythia's are a pretty tough plant to kill... Give it a wee~bit of time... Heyyyyyyyyy, Welcome to The Garden Helpers' Forum by the way.... weezie13 Compost Queen! Joined: Apr 2003 N.Y.	Refresh my memory John, if they pruned it in the middle of summer sometime... Did they cut off the flowers on the new sprigs'?? Is the forsynthia like say a lilac who make their buds the year before.... IF the yellow flowers are sparse now, it may have been the later pruning.... doesn't kill the plant/bush just makes blooms less.. I'll have to see if I can find some info on it???

weezie13 Compost Queen! Joined: Apr 2003 N.Y.	Here's Bill's info on the main pages of TGH... Care and Cultivation of Golden Bells plants/Forsythia Quote Forsythia flowers form on the previous season's growth, not on new growth, so pruning should be done immediately after the flowers have faded.

weezie13 Compost Queen! Joined: Apr 2003 N.Y.	Yeah, that's what I'm thinkin'.. Pruned late will cut the flowers off... So if they're sparse... that's probably the cause... Those plants are verrrrrrrrry hard to put to death.

cinta Member Joined: May 2005 Penna	Yes if you cut them late in the season you get less flowers the following spring. I cut one down to the soil and it did not die. I thought I could plant some flowers in that area but Mr "For see I will not die" had other ideas. LOL!!! I have them everywhere. You have to love this bush.
