I'm going to attach 2 coir hanging baskets together to form a ball and cut holes& place herbs& hang outside slideingdoor.I'd like some ideas of what I should look for.Also something that would trail?Would lavender do?I think I read is a trailing one,but we get real hot& humid& I've had bad luck with lavender.

Thyme and marjoram both will hang down, I am sure there are others, those are the two that come to mind right now. Oh oregano would also.

Lavender is not a low growing herb..in fact, it gets quite tall and very bushy if grown under the right conditons. It's an absolutely beautiful herb...I just love it!

I thought for sure I seen a trailinng lavender plant featured one weekend on HGTV.they used on a wall.they did say was a slow grower but was low matinance.
I like oregano.right now our walmart don't have them all out yet.they have spearmint,parsely,some chives,but the chives looked sad already& I haven't been nowhere in about 2 weeks(Did my V day on the internet and they shipped it.I bet was in nitie still too..lol SIL got from FedEX& brought to me)

will purple ruffles bush too much if I tried to grow in on the ball?(10 inch baskets)I believe mine was growing 18 inches))I also have some time release fert thats says will go for 6 months I can mix in soil mix

Njoynit...maybe you're right about the lavender..there's probably different varieties you can grow. I'm just familiar with the lavender plants my mom grows. Trailing lavender would be great! I think I will look into it as well.

I am interested in growing Lavender too. Is it hardy to zone 5? I have a sunny spot in the front Yard. Where would I get the starter plant? I tried seeds last yr without success

Usually you can find it anywhere they have herb/flower plants. I even think I have seen it at Wally world when they have there plants outside.

I believe lavender would be fine in zone 5. I don't grow it but my mom has beautiful bushes of it and we're zone 5b. She didn't start from seed..just bought the plants.
