I want strawberries this year and I want to know if I can buy strawberry plants in a container that are already mature and producing fruit. Where is a good place to search for them?

You can buy mature plants just about anywhere that bedding plants are sold, for the next couple months. (The first matter of importance is to pay attention to the type of strawberries you buy.) If you get them right into the ground **or in planters, or whatever** so they can get their roots established, they should start producing as soon as the weather gets nice & warm.... providing you don't get a long rainy spell, as they need lots of sun & don't like to be too wet.

Another idea for buying container strawberries that are already producing is to buy a pre-planted strawberry jar.
This is also called a pocket jar, and an olla.
"Olla" means "jar" in Spanish, and the strawberry jar is a Spanish invention.
"Olla" is pronounced "OY-YA".

isn't it too cold to put out strawberry plants?

It is time to plant strawberries now, here. It really depends more on you weather than anything else. Our Home Depot has 1 gallon plants already producing ready to go.

Yep, we can plant here now.
I don't know anyone who's doing squashes, melons and cukes yet though.

Winter squashes can go in now.

I am above San Bernardino a bit in the hills, Cajon Pass. I don't grow many edibles because I don't want to feed the ground squirrels. I'm into posies for the most part.

I'm in northern San Diego county, a few miles from the beach.
I actually was thinking of the squirrels I had at my old house today, and missing them.
I kept them well fed with apples and wild birdseed, and they left my garden alone (for the most part).

I grew Strawberries last year but something killed them. I don't know if it was the heat or what it was. They looked good, and a few weeks later they were gone.

I bought a box at walmart. It is a patio/deck strawberry hanging basket. (everbearing)I set it up about a week ago and things are going very well. Right now it is in my bathroom window since I don't want the cold to damage it. Some days it is 60 some are 40, unpredictable Oklahoma weather! The kit says the soil is coconut fiber potting medium, with a 8" hanging basket and 3 plants. (but there were actually 4 in it) I planted all 4, did I crowd it??

I doubt it-and you can always trim off a few leaves. The fewer leaves there are, the smaller the root ball will be.
