sorry, i should have said that it was collected from "the wild" in scotland, so unlikely to be an azalea i think.. (though my knowledge is pretty limited!)

I plan to bonsai it if it's suitable, but i need to know what it is before i can research further!

oh, just about ANYTHING is suitable for bonsai!!! you'll just need some heavy-duty wire and you've already got it in an appropriate container!!

i looked through this site which lists the flora of scotland. i didn't find that particular bush/tree/shrub.

there are some that don't have pictures tho.

you might want to take it to a local nursery. i'm sure someone there would be able to identify it.

thanks for the link! i'll maybe wait for the leaves to get more character and try again

my main concern for bonsai is that this is certainly an outdoor tree, and i have no option but to keep it indoors - it is on a south facing window (which is always open) but i'm not sure that's going to be good enough..

I am no expert by nooooooooo means on bonsai'ing trees... but I have watched some shows on doing them....

And a small bit of info that I did pick up on was that some plants/trees that are an outside tree that do require a dormancy period, need to be outside and kept in it's normal cycle to remain healthy and live a long life....

Keep us posted on newer pictures to see if we can figure out the tree for you!!!
