My friend received a start from her Mother, they have no idea what kind of tree it is, a Japanese something I'm told. Anyway, the tree gets to be about 30ft, has really light green leaves which kind of look like a Mimosa leaf, it doesn't flower as far as they know. Any ideas?

No that's not it, it is not an evergreen, it looks more like a Mimosa or Magnolia type tree. I am going to try to get a pic of it. Thanks for answering though.

The only thing I can think of with your discription is a honey locust tree. They do flower and also have thorns.

Sorry I haven't replied before now, have had computer problems. Anyway, that tree isn't a locust, got one of those in my backyard and they are all blooming, this one isn't. I keep asking my friend if I can go take a pic of it but we can never get together to get it done but she is obcessed with finding out what it is. It could be the Japanese Pagoda, but my friend says she doesn't remember it ever blooming so I'm still trying to get a pic of it. Thanks for all the suggestions, will let you know if I ever get a pic or find out what it is.
