My wife and I encountered this flower in Yellowstone Natl. Park and only found them above 8000 ft. in altitude.... they were a striking yellow color with the flower itself hanging upside down and the petals curling back upwards. I was hoping someone could identify it for me. I have looked in a few of the books we have but haven't found anything really close. [Linked Image]

It looks alot like a dog tooth violet, but the foliage is not spotted.

Yes, I agree with Netty, it does look just like a dog tooth violet except the leaves should be mottled. Another common name is trout lily. The botanical name is Erythronium americanum .
