A Gardeners Forum Forums Gardening Reference Gardening in 2007 Strange fast-growing tropical flowers?

Anyone seen these before or know what they are? I've had this plant for a few months, but since this summer it's really skyrocketed....literally. I started with one leaf of this plant, which rooted and is now 9 ft tall! It blossoms massive white flowers, but only for one night (not during the day.) I have attached some pictures below...(BTW the flowers are not in bloom) ...thanks!

Sorry I can't tell ya' what it is, but I sure do like it.

The Japanese call it "Moon Beauty". In Latin, it's Epiphyllum oxypetalum. There are apparently some that bloom in the day as well.

Moon Beauty My mom brought one home from her native island in Japan. She said it's a succulent. Isn't the scent heavenly? It makes you drunk! Have you just sat and watched it as the flowers opened? you can actually see them moving. Gotta love it!

Thanks Sachi! I think you're right. These flowers are absolutely beautiful, can't seem to get enough of them (considering they only bloom for a night)

Just thought you might like to know the "common" name.
It is the Night-Blooming Cereus
They are great, aren't they and very easy to propogate. Just stick a leave into the dirt and it will root!!
