I bought a pot yesterday an was just wondering how I should take care of it? It says light, soil is mix of moss and potting soil, keep plant moist and fertilize lightly. I've already read Bill's info sheet, just wondreing if anyone could give me anymore tips or things I should keep at the back of my mind. It's sitting on the tv in my room right now and I don't get as much light as I would hope.

I don't know much about cyclamen, except my mother didn't know they had a dormancy cycle. She tossed every one she ever got, figuring she'd killed them when they went to sleep. Here's a nice site about them:

I received one from my hubby last night for Valentine's Day. The info page says they like cool temps, but not drafts. My house is warmer than 65 degrees... Can I sit this in the west window of my kitchen? It's a bit more chilly by the window and it would get just a bit of sun there....

Was also wondering if I could transfer it from the pot it is in (plastic pot wrapped in foil) to an African Violet pot so I can more easily water it from the bottom. Would it be upset if I transferred it now or should I wait? Most of it is in bloom with a few buds that are yet un-opened.

Manda, the tag on mine said to keep the soil constantly moist an dI've been dunking to pot in water ao it get get watered from the bottom, watering on top of plants with bulbs makes the bulb rot. so I think the AV pot might work

Keep in a cool spot in your house, they love cool temps. Bright light. A lot of people say an east window is perfect. There is a lot of Cyclamen info on the web, a google search will give you plenty to read. Great plant! I have 2. One pink and one red.

I can't keep them alive for any reason. They don't like me.

I notice there are different types sold in the stores. I was given a dead one years ago, and have managed to bring it back every year. The flowers are a beautiful fushcia. The plants die off and look as dead as a door nail as the saying goes, but if the soil is kept slightly moist the plant will come back as a little leaf which grows rapidly. It is such a joy to see a little baby sprouting up. Last year I forgot to water one of mine for quite awhile, and thought for sure I killed it, but it came back just as lovely as ever.

I just looked up the site on cyclamens, and mine does not look like the photos at all. My plant has more leaves on it, the bud thick, and the flowers are larger and more bell like? Hmmm...what do I have?

there ARE a couple different varieties. maybe what you have is a really new one?

I can't post a picture as much as I would like, cause they have died back now, so I am waiting for them to sprout again. They would make a beautiful picture. The flowers are quite a bit larger than the normal cyclamen's and sre bell shaped, They do not grow on stringy stems as the normal cyclamen, but from a thick bud cluster close to the stem. Gee, now I really am curious if this is even a cyclamen..I've been keeping it going for the last 5 years or so, with the blooming and dying off phase, so I don't think this is a new variety?

I am proud to say that I started some cyclamen seed last winter in my greenhouse and within 10 months they were blooming! Here are a couple of pix.
