I have a palm that a friend gave me a few years ago. It doesn't grow very quickly and recently two "twigs" grew - one off the main plant and one out of the soil. These produced what look like little berries (could be seeds?). They were green and then turned yellow. These suddenly dropped from the branches of one twig. Can anyone tell me what these are? confused

I'm thinking pygmy date palm.

I couldn't find a really good picture of one but here is a link that would give you an idea. Possibly if yours is immature?

That is what they look like - the plant and the seeds. So, will these grow to mature plants if left in the soil?

Good question!

When mine does it I have left the seeds on the soil and haven't had any sprout. I would guess they would need to be pollinated to be fertile.

Maybe someone else will know.
