I wish we could put up graphics and I wish I could upload pictures these days. Just can't make it happen.

Glad you didn't have damage from the storm, so many people did. We got 2 inches of rain from it and a lot of wind but no damage.

Good morning all, we have been getting quite a bit of freezing rain lately. It is a strange Winter.

Happy spring! I'll not literally see it until the end of April here though. lol

I used up the last of my frozen blueberries in muffins this morning, they were good while they lasted.

Not really spring weather here either. The winds we had blew in cooler weather. Only 40 but that is not 70 - 80.

Oh, homemade blueberry muffins..yum !! Sorry that was the last of them.

I finally got the right color curtains hung today. They look great and are totally black out. Love them.

The temps have been nice but the wind will knock you down.

Happy March 22nd.

Windy again but going to try and do a little yard work. I have a table I want to spray paint but it's been so windy I can't get it done. Yesterday I washed down the screened in porch and today I'm going to finish putting everything back on it and cover everything with tarps to keep the pollen off and just remove the cover as we use it. Otherwise I'll be washing that stuff off all summer. It doesn't look lovely but it works. I went to revival last night so didn't get everything accomplished.

Changed the hummingbird nectar. They should be flying in soon.

Gotta a man out there working on replacing some of the fence posts.

Wish I could hire a man..there are things I want done but Rod would not hear of it..
Mind you there is very little that I want done that he deems worthy of him doing.

I think I read that I should put out my hummingbird feeder next week. Seems kinda early yet though.

I'd like to have a handy man here every day. Seems I've always got things that need to be completed.

I work tomorrow and then not again until the end of April. I'm trying to cut down but they just won't let me. I'm not answering my phone in April if I get a call.

Fully into spring here Sunny but when your flowers are gorgeous mine will be long gone. I so wish I could post pictures because right now my yard is white and yellow and red and pink. God's beauty is just a sight to behold.

I'm out of work until the end of April!!!! Yippee. And yesterday we had a meeting that lasted over an hour and a half - brutal - and guess what someone in admin has decided is a good idea. It's called "streamlining email". We have (supposedly) at least 3 nurses on campus at all times (which is a big fat lie) and we have 3 nurse emails for the 8 different residential cottages because each of those nurses is assigned a cluster of cottages (if that makes sense - I work the upper cottages which is a total of 4 cottages with 8 boys in each cottage so Upper cottage has it's own email. ) Upper cottage gets emails from the legal guardians, dentists, labcorp and other places - the emails are specific to the boys in the upper cottages. Same thing happens for the other 2 nurses assigned at the other cottages. Well.....it has been decided that from now on there will be one email for all the nurses, which means that email info about the boys in the upper cottages is going to be mixed in with the emails for the other 32 kids we have on campus. It's going to be a disaster.

Bestofour, it seems these days that if the old way works...then the new way should mess it all up. lol ~I don't know who comes up with all these new ideas. You should see the mess at DH's work place. The old way is that the supervisor manually wrote down the hours worked for each guy and sent it to payroll by fax. The new way is that each man puts in his own hours by email, the supervisor opens all the emails to approve, to send it to payroll. Well, guess what?? The supervisor forgot to approve the emails(in three divisions)....and no one got their two weeks pay. So no pay, no work....half the crew refused to go to work until they got paid. What a mess.

It snowed a bit through the night, I miss the sun shining.

I do not blame the Men, Sunny. Working without pay is never a good idea.

Sunny here. Today I bought an African Daisy yo put out, and I also put out my potted lilac bush. I really should give it to my daughter. She is the one who originally bought the bush and planted it out on the farm. I took a cutting back in 2005 and have been nurturing it since.

I used to have a beautiful outside growing lilac bush. It's was sooo pretty for many years and then just died no matter how I tried to prevent it. I was looking at pictures of it the other day. Smelled delicious too.

I'm with your husband and his friends Sunny. No pay no work.

IF I would give this bush to Valarie and she would plant it into the ground, it would flower. As I remember the flowers in this lilac bush was white.

We had a beautiful lilac colored lilac bush when we lived at the farm. It too just up and died one time, Sheri. There was really no reason for that to have happened.

Going to bed soon. Nite--nite

Oops, here I am again. wavy. One more nice day here before possible rains. Rod is spraying for weeds outside. ( Here is hoping the Bermuda grass does and the fescue takes over.)
I have a few errands to run today. Then I need to wrap my sister's and DD's birthday gifts.

Happy Thursday to you all.

lilacs grow beautifully here, I have 4 of them. Bought them for $4 at Walmart on clearance.

Yesterday our loader broke down so DH planned to take today off to fix it(vacation day) then last night the television gave out. I swear sometimes there is a bad luck halo over us.

That sounds like fun Bestofour, did you take one home with you?

Junie, lilacs are probably the only thing that we can grow better than y'all, it must be the cold Winter that does something to it. lol

Yes, you are probably right, Sunny. And it is warmer here than in IL. So lilacs do probably need the cold in the winter.
In the winter here though, while we do get snow, we are more likely to go straight to ice, which makes no sense to me.

Sheri, I have a painted pot..my DD made it with her kids for Mother's Day last year. I love it. I am sure it was fun to do. I too wonder if you have a pot for yourself ?

This morning I went to a womans ministry thing at a church I don't attend but it's not far from my house and I gotta tell you it wasn't that wonderful. Maybe it's just me and my frame of mind and it's been a long, long time since I've been to one but I wasn't overly impressed although it was nice. Maybe I was expecting too much.

Anyway, gonna work on figuring out what to plant in my newest flower pot smile

Sorry the meeting didn't go well. I find sometimes that happens. kissie

I say put a plant in your pot, not a flower. flower might compete with the beauty
Of the pot.

We are getting a snow storm tonight with freezing rain for tomorrow...the kids are certainly getting their storm days this year.

While I am sorry for your storm, I am glad that the kids will be safe at home. That part always makes me smile.

We had another thunder storm this afternoon/evening. It has passed already.

Good morning.

We are at a 5 out of 5 weather alert today for bad storms. The kids school is seriously considering letting the kids out at noon. I assume to avoid having a large car line out in the weather at 3.

I pray you are all o.k. Junie. kissie I seen the news this morning from Kansas City, Missouri. ~Is that near you?

We are getting another snow storm today, they cancelled school just West of GG's school but not hers. I kept her home anyway...I wouldn't travel in 8 inches of snow so why should she??

I looked it up. Kansas City is 355 miles away to the NW from us. About a 5 hr drive away. As you look at the Missouri/ Kansas State lines Kansas City is right on the 2 state line about mid state. We are just above the boot heel. 15 minutes South of Cape Giaradeau. Anyway not real close.

Glad that you kept Madi home. To my way of thinking, that was a good call.

Edit:
Easter Sunday.

Happy Easter to everyone !!

Thankfully where Ginger lives hasn't had a tornado but a lot of rain and wind. The devastation is awful.

We had another Tornado watch, and Thunderstorm warnings tonight. I have lived here for just shy of 7 years, and we have never had this much bad weather in such a short period of time. This string of bad weather began around the middle of March. Crazy really.

Really glad to hear that Ginger has not had to go thru this bad weather.

I'm going to Ginger's Tuesday. Hope it's all over by then. My farmers market opened for the season today. I didn't go because I don't need anything and I don't think tomatoes or cucumbers are ready yet. I haven't planted anything this year and don't plan on it.

I am down to planting 2---6 ft. raised beds. (if I had of known 8 ft beds were sold, I would have gotten them instead).
I alternate them each year. With tomatoes in one and potatoes, lettuce, onions and sometimes radishes in the other
I then have very large flower pots that I plant herbs in. Definitely a smaller crop then I grew at "home".

Have fun at Ginger's !!!

Enjoy your trip to Gingers, stay safe.

We got another foot of snow between yesterday and today. touched

April showers brings May flowers...but where I live April snow brings May mud. lol

Time to ask for another garden bed, Junie.

Yes, I will not get another garden bed. But that is ok... I may put more pavers down and put my large pots on it so the pots can get full sun.

I know all about mud..we have had over 10 inches of rain fall since Monday...and we have plenty of mud..( thanks to the trails that our dog has made in the back.)

Sorry about the snow, Sunny. Don't despair, spring is coming, I promise.

Yes Sunny don't despair. Our spring will be over and done and your flowers will be beautiful.

Gardening is a LOT of work, as you two know, when there's no one to eat the produce. I love cucumbers but I can buy them cheap at the farmers market and not have to worry about the dry weather and bugs.

Sunny, Sheri is so right about spring and flowers.

Yes, about gardening, Sheri. Honestly that is why Zi get by with so little. There are 2 farmers markets here that should open in May sometime, but the parking is horrendous. A fresh veggies is not worth a wrecked car.

Our farmers market has more knitted items and 'healing stones' then food. I know it is a hobby for many but the amount of tables there with those items make it not worth while to go. I go once in the late Summer for some fresh honey but that is it.

The sun is shining and more snow for tonight. I did get some garden seeds yesterday though...if planning counts as gardening, then I have started. lol

Yes, IMO planning starts ! So YAY for you.

There are a lot of veggies and handmade items at our farmers markets, but as I have said, the parking is terrible , and the prices are high, as well. I rarely go to mine. I miss the small one we had in the next town back home. We had local people selling there, and I think they found it hard to hike prices when selling to friends and neighbors so bargains were there to be found. And very fresh offerings as well.

I too have begun " buying" stuff for my raised beds.

It has snowed over a foot and still snowing, wet heavy snow..we keep losing power off and on. My ornamental apple tree has large branches broken right off, what a mess.

So sorry for the snow...but especially sorry about your ornamental tree. They are beautiful after all. I hope some of it is salvageable.

Good morning. I have the kids here for a few hours this morning. Their momma has to supervise some of the school kids while they box up Easter boxes of food at a local food bank.

Gosh Sunny our weather is lovely today. Sorry for the snow but we’ll be praying for moisture as this lovely weathers gets hotter and drier and you’ll be sittin’ pretty.

My farmers market has added a bunch of crafty stuff tables too but thankfully we still have plenty of vegetables. Last time I went someone was selling brewed coffee and sausage biscuits but when I noticed the biscuit was $12.00 I went home and ate.

I’m in Nashville TN for a wedding until Monday. After this I’m staying home for a while.

My DH noticed that about prices at ours as well.
We didn't eat there either. He did buy some homemade dog treats though. Then I had to hear about how they were so expensive all the way home. LOL

Have fun at the wedding Sheri.

I don't know how all those little business's are going to survive. It is hard enough to afford the basics. I know in this household we are squeezing the budget so hard that it squeaks. lol

I am going to have to give my tree a hard pruning to even it out.

Well at least your pretty tree will survive. It will grow after all

I agree about the budgets, Sunny. When/if we go to a Farmers market, I do not buy any of that extra kind of stuff unless I have a birthday or something to buy for. It is fun to look though.

Tomorrow I need to go buy a few groceries.

Let us know how your outing goes today, Sheri. I hope you have a wonderful time. You may have to buy a new suitcase, right ?? I have a friend who always takes a foldable type bag/ suitcase with her on trips...for things she buys. Works well for her.
We had a mild storm/rain this morning. It was sure MY idea of a storm. Once the weather radio quieted down, I went right back to sleep. Weather-wise, I hope this is how the rest of the weekend goes.

Happy belated birthday Bestofour. flwr

Half our province had no power yesterday...some still have none of this morning. We had extreme winds, there are trees and branches down everywhere. What a messy spring.

Sunny, I just looked, and according to her profile Bestofour's birthday is today. So Happy Birthday, Sheri. You are 21 now, right ,??

I must admit I am poor at keeping track of such things. Why I even passed right by your Anniversary as well. Shame on me. Glad one of us is keeping track.

Yes, I have power. They went through this area a few years ago and cut back all the trees near the powerlines. It flicked on and off steadily leaving me with no cable/internet for the day though.

We have been getting plenty of rain, the snow is melting.

Glad your PTB thought to clear the power line area. That makes me happy for you and at least the rain is making the snow go away, so great.

All those April birthdays means that parents were busy in July as well. notme haha

Bestofour, my last frost date is after the full moon in June. I have seen a year where we had frost every month though...it was a summer of watering at 5 a.m. when the full moon was out.

A bit aggravated today. Last week I made an appointment to have my hair cut and roots colored. She told me the only appointment was today at 8:00AM so I took it. Got up at the crack of dawn, got myself together and got there this morning at 10 til 8 and she was JUST starting a color on someone else. She smiled at me and said "it's going to be a little bit. Have a seat." So I sat to wait. Another lady with an 8:00 appointment came in to wait after me. Before she did my hair she went to the back to eat her Chick Filet breakfast. If she wasn't a long time friend of my daughters I would have walked out.

We have all had days like that. But perhaps your hair dresser was having a bad day as well. If it happens again, just be very nice, perhaps even tip, and then never go back.

That is what I would do any way......At least is your hair done nicely ?

Put out a bucket to catch some rain for me, will you Sunny ? I will be over with some empty milk jugs to collect it perhaps on Monday my indoor plants say thank you in advance.

Sun is shining here today. We may get rain tomorrow, but are promised to definitely get rain 3 or 4 days next week. My little garden says thanks.

A bucket? Bring over a swimming pool....it is POURING. The water is running down the road. If this keeps up, I'll have no snow in a week.

Gosh that's a lot of rain. We could use a drop or two. I put out some zinnia seeds today. Hope they take off.

Well my bucket holds 7 gallons ( it is really a 2 handled garden stuff carrier.)
I put it out in the spring to capture rain water for my houseplants. Once it gets really hot the 1 gallon containers grow algae so I can only collect it for so long.

You DO make me wish Rod had of been able to buy me that rain barrel. You should have a few....I bet they would come in handy later this summer.

I keep planning to put an eavestrough on my garden shed(with a rain chain), then get a barrel....but it never happens.

The sun is shining and it is a 'melting' day. thumbup

Yay for the sun !!! It is chilly this morning, then the winds will come and it will be in the high 80's by this afternoon. Then this weekend it will be in the low 70's. Golly I miss how we had spring when I was a kid.

My Granddaughter's first ballgame is this evening.

I will hope they are.wrong.

We got damaging winds yesterday as well, weather we usually see in August. It took the roofing right off of a 'run in' shed that we used as a shelter when we had horses. More repairs on the list.

Stay safe Junie. kissie

Yay for daffodils. I guess I need to dig mine up and redistribute the bulbs. I had lots of green this spring but like 2 flowers. Guess I know what I will be doing this fall.

Good morning.

Yup, if they crowd..they will not bloom. I have a few blooming in the nook where it is in the South corner. All the other ones are just poking through the ground.

I spend all day yesterday raking the old grass, then today I re-edged the flower beds and such. The snow is all gone on my lawn...but the woods still has lots. My shoulders will ache tonight. I love the fresh, sun filled air.

I have to make more bird houses, I have two but 20 barn swallows fighting over them. It has been quite the sight watching them. 😁

Oh my, how I miss my barn swallows
We had SO many. It was such fun to watch them sit on the wires to the barn, then swoop around to eat mosquitoes. You are so lucky. Enjoy watching them for me too !

No, you cannot win. We "may" get storms this afternoon. It sounded to me as if the storms happening is a toss up. I will hope we don't get them. BTW: sun is shining here too...for now.

We got heavy thunderstorms yesterday, no damage though....thankfully.

I bought my pepper and tomato seedlings. Shrinkflation hit them though, we used to get 8 cell packs, the past few years it was 6 cell pks.....yesterday it was 4 cell pks. I guess it is the only way to keep prices the same. 🥴

Glad there was no damage. We are to get them this afternoon. I hope there is no damage here as well. Especially as my plants are all looking so nice.

At least they didn't technically raise the prices. You will have to begin looking for double plants in one slot. That happened to me this year when I bought my bush cucumbers. I have them in flower pots.

Sunny can you save seeds and start indoors? Lately on some flower pots I've notice it saying "these seeds are sterile". People are very greedy.

I have not had much luck with tomato or pepper seeds, they get leggy then fall over and die. Everything else I plant directly in the ground.

Yes we are good, and safe. All is well here. My DD's house is good too. And yes, I saw some photos from our weather/news channel. Quite sad really. Luckily we didn't get any of the really bad stuff locally.

It was kinda strange, though to hear the meteorologist talk of the tornado going right at the exit to our little town, and right over the "meat market" that I go to and apparently the one he too uses.

I can send you some, it is pouring here. It's a good day to bake and cook some freezer meals.

We got another inch of rain last night. Sunday 1-1/10 inch, yesterday another inch. Dry right now. But today is a "first alert action day" So weather is going to get severe at some point.

I transplanted volunteers from where I had my Dad's Columbine flower. I hope they make it.

Columbines never do well here. I have tried too many times to count, from seed and plant. What color are they??

They are a reddish orange..Eastern Red Columbine I think.
I think I killed them. I left a bit of a hole where I planted the mass that I brought home so the water would go straight down to the roots
I probably drowned the plant, or froze it out over the winter. That hole is how filled up with nice fertilized soil. Wish me luck

I do wish you lots of luck.

Talking about plants...I have pink coneflowers coming up everywhere in one flowerbed. It's strange how some plants take over. They must have spread by seed. why

Yes about the coneflowers spreading. I read something just recently that said that is one reason to dead head them...to keep the plant from spreading. Well, I don't mind if they spread...

It was a mild Winter so lots of things have reseeded. I have sunflowers and something else volunteering in my garden....never had that happen before. Mind you, it was 32*F this morning so they probably will be no more.

I hope they make it through.

We will have temps in the 60-70's this week, so I hope my Columbine transplants make it. I do have a few seeds I saved from last year, that I failed to put out last winter to stratify...so I will add them this fall or early next spring for just in case.

The kids are coming today. "Papaw" is buying them a Pizza for lunch. Works for me.

It barely skipped us, it is 34*F this morning but it is calling for the same tonight. We had a milder Winter but that is giving us a long, cold spring.

I can see flower buds on my lilac trees. grin

I love columbines. They're so dainty. We have to grow them in the shade.

Yay for lilac buds. I think I am giving Valarie her lilac bush. If I can convince her to water it enough until it gets started.

I have my Columbine in a shaded area on the west side of my house. The little starts are doing well. I hope they stay healthy.

They just do not overwinter well here. I have tried everything...then gave up.

Still raining here, my lawn is soggy.

I trimmed shrubs most of yesterday. They'll just grow back. Why is it my lovely flowers don't grow like these shrubs that I'd rather stay a little bit smaller.

My DH "trimmed" my Bronze leaf Weigela last week. If he had of cut it any shorter he just as well cut it down.

Good luck with your shrubs, Sheri.

No worries Junie, I cut mine back severely before Winter(to keep it medium size)....and by the end of Summer it is the same height again.

After a full week of rain, the sun is shining.

Thanks for the kind words, Sunny. The p!us side if the " trim" is that he was then able to get at the weed-tree-bush ( whatever) to spray it so it will die out.

IF it is not raining this afternoon, Rod will grill out. If it is raining (very likely) I will cook our Memorial meal inside. Going soon to make individual pies for our dessert. Me blackberry, him an apple.

I noticed today that the blackberries are on the vine and just about ready to pick. That is if the deer don't beat me to them.

Well I couldn't stand it and planted another tomato plant and 8 squash plants. I'll be gone the entire month of July so unless it rains every other day that month who knows what will happen to them.

Put some net bags around the blackberries. I don't have deer problems, but I do have bird problems. I am willing to share but they take one bite out of each berry. Why not just eat one whole berry at a time ?? SMH why

I planted three rows of potatoes today, onions and carrots....it is a start. I'll finish planting the potatoes next week. The russets need to be cut so they will have to callous over first.
